I've said this a bunch of times, but I think he's very much worth a look. I am just not a big believer in Jones at all. I kept waiting for him to blow up last year and it never happened, but he looks shaky at best so far this year. I own Rodney and have no plans to drop him. If nothing else he's a good MR who will help your ratios.
If you have the roster space to stash a potential closer, Rodney is one of the best guys to stash. Jones has some injury potential due to age and the injuries he has already had and he is just not that good.
Jones has gotten the job done. I do not see why anyone thinks that just because he gives up a run today or does not have a sub-2 ERA that the Tigers are going to switch his role with Rodney. Jones has 12 saves and a sub 4 ERA. He has the job barring injury I should think.
Said this in pre-season ... no way Jones ends the season as closer in DET (I'm in DET, a fan and watch every game). 3/4 of the 9ths he pitches in are nail-biters. His "out" pitch is a 86 mph fastball.
Everyone needs to remember, the Tigers are getting fat vs. the weak sisters. Granted they have played well against CLE -- great in fact. But the real test comes starting on the 26th -- Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, Blue Jays all in a row.
We'll see what they are made of at the end of that 2+ week trial. Be shocked if Jones makes it through that buzzsaw.

Don't have anything to add to this as i agree with most of what is said. I just liked seeing the Blue Jays mentioned as part of the buzzsaw... Made me smile.
The Tigers pay Jones a whole lot o money to be their closer. He is a high quality locker room veteran. He's 12 for 13 converting save attempts this year.
I don't see everyone's logic on this impending switch to Rodney, other than the fact that most here hope to inherit Rod. or have stashed Rodney away. Until Jones goes down or implodes, I don't see old school Leyland making that change. He's coached the same way for how many years?? Peace.

Exactly. Jones has blown 1 save, big deal, happens to everyone. so what if he gives up 3 hits and a run if he still gets the save. unless he gets hurt again or starts blowing games consistently, it's his job.
they did a radio interview with him the other day and he actually embraces the rollercoaster nickname. he also admitted that he thinks Rodney and Zumaya are outpitching him
the bottom line is though, his job is pretty dang secure, and unless you have deep benches Rodney is just like any other setup man
