Players in Early Stages of Decline

Postby d18Mike » Tue May 16, 2006 1:58 pm

Thinking about this last night after reading a threads about how Aburey Huff's numbers have gone south two consecutive years and have the same trajectory this season, albiet still early.

Who else seems to be "showing their age" prematurely or before well before 35 when the numbers really start to tumble (typically). Not just off to a slow start this year, but really show signs of eroding skills.

He's 42, but yeah, well in decline.

Does Chipper Jones count? I know he's still a darn good hitter, but all that power he used to have has vanished like money when the wifes around.

Possibilities
Sheffield
Kent
Griffey Jr.
Edmonds
Hunter
Renteria
Posada

These are just possibilities. Off the top of my head, I don't know all of their ages, but I believe they are possibly in decline.

I think Larry's lack of pop this year has more to do with his injured knee. He has altered his swing because of it. I think the power will be there once he's fixed his swing.

kent is in decline, but it seems gradual. looks pretty good lately. as does renteria. Griffey I guess, but his decline is more to do with being brittle than aging it seems.
