Gagne watch

Gagne is available in my league. Is he worth a pickup? Any chance he regains his 2004 form?

May 15 Ken Gurnick, of Dodgers.MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers P Eric Gagne (elbow) threw curveballs for the first time during a bullpen session Sunday, May 14. Gagne is roughly a week away from a minor league rehab assignment.

Eric Gagne (right elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, just toss a ball on the side the next three days and throw a batting practice session on Friday when the team gets back to Los Angeles. "We aren't considering anything behind Friday," Little said. "We'll see how it goes on Friday. He might need another one of batting practice sessions and he might not."

Gagne will begin a rehab assignment on May 25. Manager Grady Little said he is "very confident Gagne will be back around the first week of June," which is a great sign. Fill-in closer Danys Baez has blown four straight save chances and Joe Beimel was called on Sunday to get a save.

There is no league where he should be available...He could be back as soon as 2 weeks and even if he is at 90% he would still be a top 10 closer...which I am sure is valuable in any format.

pick him up ASAP. he should be back soon and if he is anything like gagne of old, you want him on your team.

While I would not count on much from Gagne and probably wouldn't trade for him he would be worth a #1 waiver pick and quite a bit of FAAB budget if those situations came up. He's definitely worth a roster spot.

i was thinking about picking him up as well, someone beat me to it yesterday though....id say he is worth a shot especially if you need saves

I decided to drop Francoeur for him (I already have Beltran, Bay, MCab, CLee, Swisher and Hawpe for OFers).

Current RPs are Hoffman, Flash and Benitez. I can always package one of those closers w/ an OFer to improve another position if Gagne comes back strong.

May 17 The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers CL Eric Gagne (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, May 16, and reported no soreness. His next step is to throw batting practice May 19 in Los Angeles.
