NEW YORK (Ticker) - After posting consecutive complete-game victories, Toronto Blue Jays righthander Roy Halladay was named American League Player of the Week on Monday.
Halladay began his week by yielding one run and four hits in a win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday, then tossed a three-hitter on Saturday in an 8-1 triumph over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He struck out nine and walked two in his two outings.
Other pitchers considered were Danny Haren of the Oakland Athletics and Scott Kazmir of the Devil Rays. Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins and Scott Podsednik of the Chicago White Sox also were candidates.
