Hitting now, Pitching Later: Sound Strategy or Insanity?

This was my first baseball fantasy year, and I didn't draft a pitcher until the 4th and 6th round (Smoltz and Pettite.) I figured SPs were more fragile hence more costly. I worried in the beginning when Smoltz and Pettite struggled but it looks like they're settling in. Pitchers seem to be more available on the WW than batters. This season I've picked up Papelbon, Putz, Glavine and Verlander....and Hamels is still available.
