What can we expect from Brandon McCarthy

What are reasonable expectations for McCarthy now that he is in the rotation - for now. How good is this kid?

Also, what are his chances of say, replacing Garland if he pitches well. I know Ken Williams has gone on record saying that he plans to secure McCarthy a rotation spot before 2007.

i think vs MIN and CHC his starts could look like this:
6 IP, 1-2 ER, 3-4 H, 2 BBs, 5-6 Ks, W (per start)

Yeah that's what I'm expecting. If you're wondering whether or not to start him Monday, I'm thinking a certain yes.

They should leave him in and take garland out when contreras comes back if mccarthy flourishes.

I wouldn't start him on Monday b/c he won't be pitching. With the rain out this past week all Chi SPs are pushed back a day. He'll start on Tuesday @TB. He may pick up a 2nd start on Sunday vs the Cubs but that has yet to be determined.

McCarthy's supposed to matchup against Kazmir on Tuesday and like Fireball said, the second start is up in the air...since Contreras is due back.
