Woody Williams today....WTF?

Postby san76er » Fri May 12, 2006 3:34 pm

He started the game and left after one inning....1IP, 2H, 1ER. Wonder what happened? It seemed like such a good matchup for him......Between rainouts and stuff like this (and Sheets and Patterson on the DL) it's been a frustrating week for my pitching.

This is happening too much..there should be a designated runner for pitchers in the NL without having to take the pitcher out of the game haha

Figures - I thought I was slick picking him up for a spot start where I'm trailing by 1 win in H2H. Just my luck.

Nobody buys a ticket or turns the TV on to watch a pitcher bat or run. And having the pitcher bat and run only makes it easier for the other pitcher to get an out, which decreases the level of drama and thus the level of interest in the game, and pitchers who must hit and run aren't spending that time studying the batters who they are scheduled to face once they return to the mound. A Red Sox-Yanks game with Schill and Mussina at the plate in a critical situation or one with Ortiz and Giambi? The DH is the best thing to ever happen to baseball. [/end threadjack]

i think the last spot in my rotation is cursed. harden goes down, i put him on the dl and put ponson in the spot. ponson goes down, put williams in there. now williams goes down. wonder who i should pick up to get injured now.

My question is, what does SD do to replace him, as he is apparently heading to the DL. Anyone from the minors worth a roster spot for the short term?

One month seems like the best-case scenario. Six to eight weeks might be more likely. Shawn Estes is still at least a month away, so the Padres will choose between Brian Sweeney, Mike Thompson and Seth Etherton to replace him in the rotation. Any pitcher in Petco Park qualifies as a sleeper, so even though all of the candidates to replace him are right-handers with below average stuff, the player chosen might have some value in NL-only leagues.
