I would appreciate some feedback. I have a number 9 waiver wire position. My league is competitve, but I don't think many of the players are watching baseball this closely. If Hamels pitches well today, that could really tip my hand here.

So finally to my two part question:

1. Is it ethical to offer a trade to the guy who has the number one priority (who happens to be my brother - who I am sure is far too busy with work to know this Hamels guy exists) for a pretty decent player on my roster? I would tell him that he grabs this player and I will offer him a player that is acceptable to him.

2. Who would you offer for Hamel in this situation? I have Pierre, Giles, Barfield, Huff and maybe Winn at my disposal. Am I offering too much for this guy or maybe not enough for the #1 priority position in a 12 man league? Bottom line is I want to be fair in my trade offer and to the rest of the league. I haven't heard of trading for a priority position in my leagues ever and don't want other players hating on me if they were desperate for this guy.

I don't have a problem with it. It's basically a conditional contract. However, as long as you don't exploit the fact that he is your brother for your own personal gain it shouldn't matter. I'd try and trade Huff or Winn.

Offer Barfield for Hamels,Pierre and Giles would be paying too much, Huff is slightly more than I would want to give up and Winn should be your second option

I think making a conditional trade offer with the guy with the #1 priority is totally OK. It gives the guy with the #1 good value for his priority, and works within the system. I don't see how there is any collusion involved, since both teams are making legitimate attempts to improve themselves.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. I think the only thing that works in my favor that he is my brother is that I feel like I can trust him to trade me Hamels after he pick him up to trade me. Another player that I might offer this deal to might just take him for himself and never go through with the trade.

if he doesn't know why you want the #1 priority, that's fine.

In a Yahoo league we can't make a trade for a #1 waiver position directly right?

Nope. But I believe a commish can change the waiver priority.

No you can't. I was just mentioning this to a guy in a league I'm in. It would be a nice addition to be able to trade waiver priorities, almost like trading being able to add draft picks in a trade in real life.
