Baseball's weird scoring

Postby jebatzel » Sun Jul 27, 2003 1:29 pm

"G. Sheffield reached on fielder's choice, R. Furcal and M. Giles scored"

this just happened in the Braves Expos game.
(1st inning)

I would think that since Gary hit the ball and 2 runners score the he would get 2 rbis, but no he doesn't get credit for them because it wasn't a hit. Yet if he hit a ball to the warning track and it was a sac fly he would get the rbi, if the run tagged from 3rd and scored.

after the play is over he at first and later scores in the inning. His run counts, yet him being on base doesn't offically count. his OBP still is .000

I probably wouldn't normally notice this, but I really need to raise my average, OBP, and rbis in a head to head match-up I am in this week.

they scored on an error.

frucal on third, giles on second.
ground ball to ohka
furcal stays put, since no outs, giles breaks toward third and gets into a run down; ohka throws the ball to left field.

giles and furcal score.
since nobody would have scored on sheff's ground out, he doesnt get the rbi's even though there was no out made.

That would be 2 unearned runs! But why does he now have 3 unearned runs? Is it because Sheffield scored and that counts as an unearned run? That's the only explanation I can think of.

yes, sheff's would be out #1, but he made it on base, c.jone and a.jones both got out (#2,#3) any runs after that are unearned also, aka ficks two run homerun scoring sheff
