Health is the only thing standing in his way. The thing about Bonds is that he really didn't become the best hitter until he was much older than Pujols is currently.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." ~George Carlin
I think he's discussing single season...and I don't know if he could keep this up for a whole season, but if anyone can, it would definately be Pujols. That would actually be fantastic if he did!
I wish people would calm down about this guy. Yes, he's currently a great hitter but he doesn't have even 250 career HR. Pujols needs a lot more years of similar production to even make this discussion relevant.
Easily... Bonds wasn't nearly as good as Pujols is at Pujol's age. Pujol's is getting near that Bonds-of-three-years ago stage and he hasn't even hit his supposed prime years yet.
I think Miggy Cabrera has the talent to maybe challenge Pujols, but don't know about the work ethic. Pujols just seems locked in in every way on the field and off.
This is not a slap at Bonds or McQwire, really. But I think passing 70 without juice is going to be tough. The sad thing is the single-season record is so tainted that it's hard to get excited about it anymore. Too many question marks and invisible asterisks. And that's a shame.
But if anyone is going to do it, I'd love to see it be Albert. A class guy who could restore a modicum of integrity to the record books.

Yeah, but nobody has been as good as Bonds in Bonds' best years. Pujols would need to do what Bonds did from 2001-2004 right now because it's doubtful he'll be able to do it when he's in his late 30's and early 40's like Bonds did.
Single season record? Possible but doubtful. I expect 55-60 homeruns for Pujols this season.
great post, man that would be fantasitic for baseball if he did, i dont see why not, the guy has 50 rbi's & we just started May, thats absurd, i hope he keeps it up,
