Pudge to play 1B

BALTIMORE -- No roster moves today, but with Chris Shelton getting a day off, Pudge Rodriguez will play 1B for the first time in his big-league career. He played there years back in winter ball.

Nice "day off" for Shelton. He did come in and pick up a hit, but I was hoping to see Shelton get an entire day of rest, mentally and physically. But it ended up a tight game, so I guess Leyland felt it was the best decision.

I guess this also shows that Leyland currently has no confidence in DY's health to put him into the field for a game. Of course, I don't really blame him for that.

Pudgie actually looked good at first, though he wasn't tested that much. Fatty Young looks like he needs more ABs in Erie. Pretty lost at the plate he was.

Doesn't it make you wonder why Leyland would have Pudge at first when DY is there? And if it's because he doesn't feel DY is in good enough shape, then why not leave him on the DL? Pop ups and strike outs are not going to help this team.
