May 8 The Seattle Times reports Seattle Mariners manager Mike Hargrove has re-thought his closer-by-committee approach and installed RP J.J. Putz as the closer for the time being. Hargrove warned Putz would not be an automatic choice for the final inning, saying his usage would depend on the situation and how much work Putz has gotten in recent innings.
This kinda reminds me of LaTroy Hawkins and Damaso Marte. Both guys were "stuff" guys who supposedly were back of the 'pen type RPs. Soriano has terrific stuff and might be better suited, make-up wise, to be a set up man at this point in time. Putz has been lights out this year, and with a bit more experience than Soriano, Hargrove has made the right call. The possibility of ruining a guy if he doesn't produce in a pretty significant role seems more likely the reason Hargrove made the call he did.
**DISCLAIMER** I own Putz in a money league....go Putz!

Guardado worth holding onto? I will, I believe, in a 15 team roto, but are people letting him go now. Any predictions on when he'll get another chance to close?

I agree. They want to trade Eddie and right now they'd be lucky to get Tyler Walker and a bag of peanuts. They really need Guardado back closing games and looking good so they can at least get a few decent prospects when they ship him out (since this is his FA year and they won't be resigning him).
