Willis or Webb? NL Rookie of the Year

Postby HYLRedSox » Fri Jul 25, 2003 10:50 am

Dontrelle has been, well, Dontrelle: explosive and powerful, now witha 9-2 record with a 2.67 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and 80 strikouts.
Meanwhile, Brandon Webb has been quietly putting up very similar numbers under the radar with a 2.43 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Willis has the hype, but you can't deny his outstanding numbers, despite the lack of wins (can you say Pedro?). So the question at hand is: who deserves to win NL rookie of the year? Who will win?
And finally, who do you think will have the better major league career?

They're both worthy but Webb actually is more deserving. However, Willis will win due to the hype surrounding him - the flashiness, the buzz, sort of a popularity contest.

That's what I think too. There's been so much hype about Willis, that Webb is going pretty much unnoticed.

i agree with everyones assesment here. webb might be more deserving, but willis would probably win it because of the hype. i also think webb is going to have the better career.

Webb should win and Webb should have a better career. Willis' mechanics are awful- look for him to get hurt early in his career.

I think Webb should win it and I think he will. Dontrelle's second half won't be as good as his first, he relies a lot on that delivery which teams will get used to and start to hit him a little more. Webb, in the meantime, is just going out there and doing his thing. Webb won't run away with it, but I don't think it will be easy to deny him when it's said and done.
