I had the exact same injury from a softball game once, so I'm not optimistic. That 6 to 8 weeks is the bone healing part... After that, he's got to restretch the wrist ligaments that will shorten up while his wrist is in a cast... That restretching is long process and his wrist may never be 100% again. Obviously, he'll have the best therapists working on it, but tight ligaments in the wrist don't restretch out quickly. You basically have to strain your wrist, let it heal, then strain it again, and repeat that several times till you've got them back to where they were before the injury.... He can play while they're doing it, but it'll sap his power considerably, and because its his throwing hand, he'll be a liability in the field. He's also going to lose muscle mass in his forearm and wrist... So best case scenario, it's late in the season before he's 100% again.
