May 4 The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Mark Mulder (back) returned to St. Louis to be examined after suffering lower back stiffness. He has been feeling the stiffness for two weeks, and scouts and rival coaches had noticed a dip in Mulder's velocity the past two starts.
