The baseballs pitched to Bonds due to his eventual takeover of Ruths #2 spot on the HR list will be marked. The reasoning is that it will keep fans from arguing over who has the true 713, 714, 715 etc.
Seems to me Bonds' balls have been marked ever since Jose Canseco decided to write a book.

I hear the 714 ball is marked with a picture of Victor Conte and the 715 ball will be marked with a picture of Dr. Ting.
And of course ball number 755 (if he makes it) will be marked with a photo of Barroid in drag sticking a syring in his butt.

Aren't all his HR balls tainted anyway?
I hate when baseball does this, why can't they create a system for marking EVERY ball for the season. Do it right or don't do it at all. Bonds' HRs are not the only collectible/historic ball hit out of ballparks. What if say some young slugger comes up and hits his first dinger and 16 years later we are talking about him breaking the home run record. #1 is worth quite a bit of money as well, wouldn't you want to be able to prove it?
I am not arguing with the concept, I'd just like to see it across the board.

How exactly will they do this?
Things go through my mind:
Will they mark all balls used in Giants games?
Will they mark only balls pitched to Barry?
What happens in the case of a foul ball into the stands?

I was wondering about that too.

I remember when Bonds was going for the season mark (70) they used the specially marked balls when Bonds came up to bat.
MLB provided the balls which had a marking and number on them that was only visible with a black light. The authenticity of these balls was
certified by representatives from MLB as well as a representative
of an Accounting firm.

My balls are marked so why shouldn'd Barry's be?
