Giants Trade From 2003

Postby GreenFish » Thu May 04, 2006 6:06 pm

As Liriano is starting to make his mark in the big leagues, I thought I would bring this up.

14-Nov-03 - San Francisco Giants traded Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano to the Minnesota Twins for A.J. Pierzynski and a player to be named or cash considerations.

Nathan - Stud Closer
Liriano - Stud in the making
Bonser - 24 year old who is 2-1 with a 1.47era and 33 k's in 36 innings in AAA this year.

Sabean has always been dubbed a good GM but this one sure has come back to bite him big time!

Liriano is now on the DL. He had a history of injury in the minors. He may not pitch at all this coming year. Right now we need Nathan. He is the player I miss the most in this deal. The Giants were right to trade Liriano because of his injury history, that didn't take long to prove.
But Nathan? I still don't know why he was in any deal. We needed a closer more than a catcher then and now.
