How many legitimate ways are there to get on base?

1. Hit (single,double,triple,homer,grand slam)
2. Walk
3. Hit by a pitch
4. Error (fielder fails to make a play like dropping a routine fly and the batter makes it safely to base it's an errorerror as opposed to a hit. )

ok, catchers interference is considered just interference. Missed third strike is an error. Intentional walk is...well...a walk.Ground rule double is a hit. You're still missing one. Keep on guessing :-o

I've sited the rule # if you want to look it up

1. Base on balls. [6.08(a)]
2. Hit by pitch unless the ball is in the strike zone or the batter
makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball. [6.08(b)]
3. The catcher or any fielder interferes with him. [6.08(c)]
4. A fair batted ball touches an umpire or runner before touching a fielder. [6.08(d)]
5. Base hit.
6. Error by fielder.
7. Fielder's choice.
8. Obstruction. [7.06(a)]
9. Dropped/missed third strike. [6.09(b), 10.14(f)]

I probably would consider obstruction to be the same as interference but that is the way the rule is written.

Accepted as answer by metsfan1969 on Wed Feb 12, 2003 10:07 am EST.

This probably goes beyond what you're asking, but how about entering as a pinch-runner along with the others mentioned? :-B
