I grabbed him in my draft expecting him to get plenty of playing time against rightie starters and hoping for a cheap source combo of power and speed.
Dropped him a few weeks ago when it was apparent he wasn't even getting playing time against righties. With the O's injury problems he's now the new lead off hitter and playing every day and someone else has grabbed him off the wire
Leading off he is a very valuable commodity, although his BA will hurt especially when the O's face a leftie starter.

Apr 30 Orioles.MLB.com's Spencer Fordin reports Baltimore Orioles OF Corey Patterson will hit in the leadoff spot while 2B Brian Roberts (groin) is sidelined on the 15-day disabled list.
He has never been able to hit leadoff. This move will probably lead to him spiraling into a vortex of poor plate discipline, over-analyzation and ultimately going back to the bench when Roberts returns and Corey has gotten on base to the tune of a .275 OBP.
He would be better off batting in the lower half of the lineup where there is less pressure, IMO.
Those in weekly transaction leagues note ... this from Rotowire:
---
Patterson faces Kevin Millwood (0-for-8, seven Ks), Curt Schilling (0-for-3, two Ks), Tim Wakefield (0-for-6, two Ks) and Josh Beckett (0-for-3, one K). While he has been incredibly hot the last week, you might want to temper your expectations of what he'll accomplish this week, given his history against the pitchers he'll be facing.

Wow 0-8 with 7Ks! That's the definition of "owning" someone.

Nice, it'll be the perfect test to see if he may have actually turned a corner, of is in your run of the mill short term hot streak. He'll be on my bench. Basically I pick a guy like this up, not because I need him, but to keep another team in my league from getting a potential 25/25 guy.

He became every day by virtue of Matos' injury. The Roberts injury (and his recent success) then vaulted him to the leadoff spot. Even if he struggles at the top of the order, per usual, he'll simply move down the order and continue to play.
If he keeps doing what he has for the last 7-10 days, it seems reasonable to think Patterson will hold off Matos upon the latter's return.
