Since he's on the 40-man Maine seems the likeliest option to fill in for Bannister. Iriki isn't on the 40 so he'd require a move, I doubt Heilman gets flip-flopped, and Lima is sucking it up big time.

Maine didn't start off too hot but has looked pretty good recently. His last start (tonight) was steller, going 7 IP with 1 ER. He has 24 IP now and 2.65 ERA with only 4 BB.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

If filling the hole from within, he'd be my choice over Lima and Gonzalez.

And maybe he will pitch well enough to steal VZam's job when Bannister returns. We can hope anyway... :-)

I didn't hear it first-hand but supposedly on the WFAN report they said that it was a mild strain that didn't require a DL-stint and that there was a chance Bannister would not miss a start.

According to Randolph Maine can grip a baseball now. Not sure if that means he's throwing yet. He can come off the DL May 18.
