I heard about the feller that got suspended today:
Toronto Blue Jays minor-league pitcher Edward Rodriguez received a 50-game suspension for using steroids.

But I stumbled on this story from last week. Was it even on any sportscast? I guess it is no big deal if none of the players were not named Bonds. But once again it shows that juicing is a big issue that surrounds MLB pitching... :-°

D-Backs minor-league pitcher, 4 others suspended over steroids

Associated Press
Apr. 18, 2006 02:00 PM

NEW YORK - Arizona Diamondbacks minor league pitcher Angel Rocha was suspended for 100 games Tuesday, the toughest penalty baseball has levied for a positive steroids test.

Rocha was suspended for 15 games last June 6. The Diamondbacks would not say which farm team he had been assigned to, spokeswoman Lynita Johnson said.

Four players were suspended for 50 games each for testing positive: Los Angeles Angels pitcher Karl Jelinas, New York Mets pitcher Jorge Reyes, St. Louis outfielder Yonathan Sivira and San Diego pitcher Matthew Varner.

At the very least, it can be used as a valid reason why none of the offensive records should have asterisks by them.

I read an article about it, but didn't post anything simply because the names involved don't affect very many people.

The Mets had two players from A suspended 50 days recently but there wasn't a peep about it other than on Mets minors related sites.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

If the players are only fringe prospects do you expect a lot of noise?

No I don't necessarily expect it just thought it was odd since the media can't get enough of the steroid controversy.

;-D

Ditto.

Part of this new and improved anti-roids movement is supposed to be about sending messages to the youths across America's playing fields.

Say no to drugs.... :-°

Count me among the morons who until agressive testing started last year thought that steriods were primarily a hitters aid. I would have bet it was an 80/20 hitter-to-pitcher ratio. It seems that at least 50% of the busts thus far in the Majors and Minors have been pitchers.
