Johnny Damon

Wondered what value everyone saw with Damon? He's atop the most explosive offense in the MLB. He has the opportunity to be special -- yet he hasn't really knocked my socks off lately. I was considering dealing him for some power bats, but realistically it's hard for me to evaluate where others see Damon's value at right now.

What kind of expectations are there for Damon the rest of the way?

He may have sold his soul and all -- but all I'm worried about in his value baseball stat-wise. His character isn't any of my concern at this point.

He hasn't been the old Johnny, that's for sure. More like Autoumaton Johnny. Step up, swing, groundball. He's not pllaying badly, he just doesn't seem all that into it.

Statwise, he's walking a fair amount right now, which is keeping his OBP at about the same level as last season. But where are those pretty little flare slap hits to left that always got him to 2nd?

I think Johnny is doing what most of the players do this year. They play all-out in their contract year, get a big deal, then hit cruise control. When it's all said and done, he'll have a really good year, but not as good as last year or the year before.

That said however, he should come close to his norms. I'd keep an eye on that shoulder though.

I'd expect the normal production from Damon this year.
