How can I improve this team??? WHIR

Postby Sid Bream's Slide » Tue Apr 25, 2006 3:09 am

Thanks for taking a look.
Regarding my team: I'm more than satisfied with my offense and relief pitching, but my starting pitching needs a lot of help. I don't have any close emotional ties with any of my players !+) so they're all fair game to trade. Just one note: I don't VALUE him higher, but I'm less likely to trade Sizemore because of our keeper rule. The specifics:

5x5 H2H
12 Team Keeper League (4 keepers, can't keep any 1st and 2nd round picks, even if they're acquired in a trade. For me, that would be Ortiz and Bay.)
Hitting categories: BA, R, RBI, HR, SB
Pitching categories: W, S, K, WHIP, ERA

Weekly lineups are set each Sunday night and can't be changed for that week.

C Josh Willingham
1B David Ortiz
2B Rickie Weeks
3B Eric Chavez
SS Edgar Renteria
OF Jason Bay
OF Magglio Ordonez
OF Grady Sizemore
Util Josh Barfield
BN Curtis Granderson
BN Carlos Beltran
BN Brad Hawpe
BN Justin Morneau

SP Erik Bedard
SP Brad Radke
RP Joe Nathan
RP Brad Lidge
P Freddy Garcia
P Jose Valverde
P Chris Young
DL Noah Lowry
BN Wandy Rodriguez

I know I'm not giving you a lot of information on FA's and other teams' rosters, but I'd like to get a general idea of what everyone thinks I could/should trade for first. Also: POST YOUR LINKS and I'll help! ;-D

You could probably get a nice starter for Beltran and maybe another player like Garcia or Radke. Beltran is probably a "buy low" right now due to his hamstring, so I would think you'd need to include another player to sweeten the deal.

That's the main problem... I'd rather not sell Beltran low. I want to do the low buying :-?. I'm thinking of Ortiz + Garcia for an elite pitcher and a decent 1B.

Hold onto Beltran for now. His value is lower than it should be. If you want to trade Ortiz, I would target J. Peavy as a buy low. P. Fielder could be a decent 1B. Or go for a lesser pitcher and a Delgado type.

Thanks for your help with mine.
Basically I'm complicated.
I have a hard time taking the easy way
I wouldn't call it schizophrenia
But Ill be at least two people today

If that's OK

And I can go on, and on, and on...

But who cares?

I would definitely target SP, and it seems as if you have a surplus of solid OF so I may look there for a trade. I might also try to move Chavez for a top tier pitcher and an Atkins type...

Great suggestions so far! Thanks.

The guy that has Peavy also has Delgado, so who do you think it'd take along with Ortiz to get both of them? Someone like Bedard? Is that too much/too little? His lineup's below:

C V. Martínez
1B C. Delgado
2B M. Lowell
3B S. Rolen
SS J. Peralta
OF B. Giles
OF J. Drew
OF G. Sheffield
Util J. Gomes
BN B. Bonds
BN K. Greene
BN B. McCann
BN A. Kearns

SP B. Penny
SP J. Peavy
RP D. Turnbow
RP D. Báez
P T. Glavine
P K. Rogers
P T. Hudson
BN J. Bonderman
DL E. Gagne

Kent would be a good buy-low option for 2nd.

Ortiz and Garcia for Delgado and Peavy. That might work. I think 2B is a problem, since Weeks hasn't been doing anything.

That's a pretty good team. I wouldn't trade Ortiz for another starter, but I would trade Bay. I think SP is the only weakness you need to adress.
