Thoughts on Cantu?

What does everyone think about this guy? Can he duplicate last year's numbers?

I'm wondering why all of the hype for Chase Utley, but not much for Jorge Cantu. Their 2005 numbers were close (Utley's better in runs, SB and BA), while Cantu's almost four years younger.

Anyway, is Cantu on his way to being an elite player, or is he a one-year-wonder?

I think he's a stud in the making. He was sl;owed for about a week with an oinjury, but I think it's a fair expectation that he will come close to his numbers from last season. RBI may come down closer to 100, but I like his HRs to stay about the same.

I don't know that he'll be able to repeat what he did last year, but I see him coming fairly close to those numbers across the board. As long as Crawford and Lugo, if he ever comes back, get on base in front of him, he'll have lots of RBI opportunities.

I traded for Cantu (swapped him for Mark Mulder straight up) and drafted Gomes in my keeper league this spring. I couldn't be happier with the way these guys are playing, although I still can't believe I find myself having a venting interest in D-Rays games these days

cantu and gomes are gonna be a middle class man's ortiz and manny, they will have huge RBI numbers and prob like 65-70 HR between the two, they are a great combo already and will only get better when lugo and crawford start gettin on base more. or play for that matter. cantu started slowly last year too and heated up in the summer months as most hispanic players do, look for him to have big numbers, a solid average, 25-30 homers and well over 100 RBI. screw utely cantu is the real deal...

I thinks it's okay to have two real deals, because Utley certainly is.
