How do you take an MP3 and have it play on a website?

Postby Phatferd » Sun Apr 23, 2006 5:32 am

I want to keep a file in mp3 format and have it play within the webpage. For example, a lot of times you click on a link and it wants to download and save to your HD, I want it to just start playing on the site, like the quicktime things.

Anyone know how to do this?

Give it a keyboard.

Sorry, I really don't know, but I've had a few beers tonight and couldn't resist making that dumb joke. :-D

I think I only need to find a place to host the mp3 files. Anyone know of a free place to host some files that doesn't make you sit through 20 minutes of adds?

I'm pretty sure you have to embed it into the HTML code of the website. I have no idea how to do that though. ACSguitar may know.

Depends how big the file is but if you have a comcast email address I know they give you 26 MB of online storage, as do some other ISP's.

Are you trying to add it to a web page, or just a link to the file...if you're trying to add it to a web page this is the HTML code you need:

Embedded (you can't pause it)
Code: Select all
<embed src="yourmusic.mp3">

Not embedded (people can see the player and pause it)
Code: Select all
<noembed> <bgsound src="yourmusic.mp3"> </noembed>

Thanks. What I am basically doing is I found a mp3 player thing that basically takes mp3s and creates a playlist and plays them on a webpage, but you have to link the mp3s you want to it. I used putfile.com to host them, but it wont work because the file needs to have its own url that plays the song right from that page without downloading it and using a media player on your hard drive to use.
