After entering a tie game to start the ninth, Eddie Guardado walked four batters tonight and took his second straight loss.
Our Take
Disgusting. It was especially surprising coming from Guardado, who hasn't walked more than 18 batters in a year since 2001. Guardado threw 38 pitches in the inning, so expect him to get Friday off, leaving J.J. Putz in position to pick up another save opportunity. If Guardado doesn't get his act together soon, he might lose his job to Putz.
For one night, at least, Putz should get the chance.
Eddie had that 38-pitch bomb, and Soriano faced six batters in 1.1 innings and will almost certainly get the night off while still on a comeback watch from the TJ surgery.
Guardado might lose his job or maybe get traded but my money is on Soriano also, not Putz.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
