SAN FRANCISCO — The Mets don't expect center fielder Carlos Beltran to play in their series against the Giants this week, but they plan to re-evaluate him Friday before making a decision that could place him on the disabled list.
"We'll see how it feels Friday and go from there," manager Willie Randolph said before last night's game.
The best-case scenario is for Beltran's sore right hamstring to respond to the rest and for him to be available this weekend in Atlanta, where the weather will presumably be warmer.
The worst-case scenario would be for the Mets to push him as a pinch hitter, have him reinjured and then put him on the disabled list. Should he not play against the Giants and still go on the DL, it would be retroactive to April 22.
