Cubs' Lee could miss 2-3 months

Postby dave_1861 » Thu Apr 20, 2006 8:34 pm

Derrek Lee - 1B - CHC - Apr. 20 - 8:21 pm et
X-rays detected two broken bones in Derrek Lee's right wrist, and the first baseman could miss two to three months.
Lee suffered a fracture of the distal radial bone and the distal ulna bones in Wednesday's collision with Rafael Furcal at first base. The Cubs will place him on the disabled list on Friday, but they haven't announced who will replace him. We'd like to see Brandon Sing get a chance, at least as a platoon player against lefties. Todd Walker could see most of the starts at first base, with Jerry Hairston Jr. and Neifi Perez sharing time at second. A trade for someone like Matt Stairs might also be a possibility. Looks like i better hold off on trying to trade Shelton, i think i'll need him at 1B for a couple months or so with Lee out.

I swear half my offense is either injuried or not playing for squat and my pitchers are getting their butts kicked by teams that they should beat. What's worse is i'm losing to guys who players are playing way over their heads, unbelievable.

You could buy him low from me... this is depressing... l should have taken Abreu/Bay and grabbed Konerko or Thome... crap....

should Lee be dumped... l have heard bad things about players coming back from wrist injuries.

It ain't just the bones healing... having that wrist immobilized is going to shorten up his ligaments, so it's like a double injury. first the bone heals, then you work on the restretching out the ligaments.

You've got two options, stay out a long time to heal perfectly, or play hurt... And not play that well either. He needs that wrist 100 % for his power.
