Piece of bone broke off? Wouldn't that show up on x-ray? Either way, I predict ligament damage, possible surgery . . . out 6 weeks. Ellis better start hitting.

"Marcus Giles has a sprained ligament in his left middle finger, but the Braves believe he could return in a few days.
Tests discovered no breaks, which is good news for Atlanta. With Edgar Renteria likely to return this weekend, Giles should be able to avoid the disabled list."

Apr 20 The Associated Press reports Atlanta Braves 2B Marcus Giles (finger) had an MRI reveal a sprained ligament in his left middle finger, and he is probably headed for the disabled list.

ATLANTA -- An MRI taken in Atlanta on Thursday morning showed that Braves second baseman Marcus Giles has a sprained ligament in his left middle finger.

Giles, who feared that he might have broken the finger while sliding into second base against the Mets on Tuesday night, will rejoin the Braves for their series against the Nationals in Washington on Friday. Before deciding whether to place him on the disabled list, the club will continue to evaluate him over the weekend.

Giles said that he expects to be in the lineup by Monday and isn't ruling out returning this weekend.
