Of course there's reason for concern. A sprained finger can mean pretty much anything less than a break, 2-3 days to 3 weeks. Sprains can sometimes be as severe as breaks.

From the MLB website:

Marcus Giles arrived at the ballpark with a swollen and stiff left middle finger. Giles, who was injured while sliding into second base on Tuesday night, will learn the extent of the injury after having an MRI performed in Atlanta on Thursday morning.

Although X-rays that were taken Tuesday night didn't show a fracture, Giles may learn that there is some ligament damage. His swollen finger was wrapped in a brace on Wednesday morning.

It is likely either Giles or Renteria will wind up on the DL, because otherwise the Braves would be seriously shorthanded. This sucks.

Giles, Huff, Crisp, C. Jones, Baldelli -- my roster can't take much more!

Latest news from the Braves site does not sound promising. He's gettng an MRI . . . possibility of ligament damage.

"As for the bad news, it came when Marcus Giles arrived at the ballpark with a swollen and stiff left middle finger."

"It's frustrating when things are out of your control," Giles said. "It's pretty sore."

swollen again this morning as per 680 the fan....they say that he is DL bound.....

Marcus Giles will undergo an MRI this morning on the left middle finger he injured in Tuesday’s game, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“I’m nervous,” Giles said. “I think a piece of bone broke off.”

looks like the DL for sure...
