Dodgers need a quality HR hitter

Postby RaNe » Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:36 pm

The only player that comes to mind is Kent and Drew.
The Dodgers need to get a strong bat that'll hit a lot of homers, like what Beltre provided.
See what kind of year the Dodgers had under Beltre?
Am I wrong?

i agree completely and wholeheartedly. i think that a guy that can hit 35+ homers like konerko could work wonders for our tesam. i think that this could put our offense over the top and eventually help us compete for the title. i really wish that we could trade for one by the deadline, but we will probably have to wait until the offseason.

Off-Season it is. Only way we get a power hitter at mid-season is a trade of Billingsley, Young, Guzman, Orenduff, or other such guys who we dont want to trade.

I know but we need to do something in order to add a big bat. We have some nice slap singles and doubles hitters like Mueller, Furcal, Garciaparra, Izturis, and almost everyone else. We just now need a Ryan Howard type guy to drive them all in. Sweet.

Dodgers need a power hitter to win. That's like saying humans need air to breathe. It's pretty damned obvious... yet our FO doesn't seem to see it.

I just wish we could have pulled have pulled the trigger on that Dunn trade last season. He may strike out wayyyy too much, and hit .240 every year, but he still knocks 40 out of the park. Which means 33 at Chaves Revine, but I'll take that too.

I would love to see Carlos Lee from MIL to play the Dodgers LF. Won't happen though. They'll probably re-sign him.

I think our lineup is solid enough for the NL West.

Kent, Drew, Raffy, and Nomah are all quality hitters. Mueller is serviceable. While a power hitter would be nice, there is no really feasible trade opportunity out there. If Drew stays healthy all year, we can count on him for 30-35 bombs, Kent and Nomah with 20-25. While not the best power hitting team, we definately arent the worst.

Drew will not hit 30 - 35. I would be shocked is Nomah hits any more than 17 or 18. We still need a slugger.

How about a guy like Miguel Cabrera?
Our third base position is pretty weak with Mueller out.
I know it'd be pretty impossible to trade for him, as the Marlins view him as the present and future of the team.
If we can make an attractive offer (Mueller + Sele and bring up Billingsley to take his spot? probably not enough, but just an example.) We're pretty loaded in the OF too, with guys like Werth and Repko.
I prefer we kept Repko - he's a 5-tool player.

Nonetheless, a guy like Miguel would do wonders for our team.
