He's up against Wolf, so what are his chances of getting a win...
EXPOS PROBABLE STARTER: Javier Vazquez (6-6, 3.95 ERA). Vazquez will be looking for his first win since June 10. Over his past six starts, the 26-year-old right-hander is 0-3 with a 4.82 ERA. Last Friday, he gave up three runs and seven hits in seven innings, but he did not get a decision in the Expos' 5-4 loss to the Florida Marlins. In 18 career games against the Phillies, Vazquez is 8-4 with a 4.60 ERA.
PHILLIES PROBABLE STARTER: Randy Wolf (10-4, 3.31 ERA). Originally scheduled to start Saturday, Wolf was moved up a day after throwing one inning in Tuesday's All-Star game. The 26-year-old lefty has won five of his last six decisions. Last Friday, he worked six innings, giving up one run and four hits in a 10-3 victory over the New York Mets. Wolf is 6-2 with a 3.92 ERA in 10 career games against the Expos.
Wolf is great and Vasquez hasn't been very good. I'd bench him for this start.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
i'm choosing to die by the sword here, although i haven't even lived by it technically. i got vazquez in trades right after his early season dominance ended and he's been a 4.5+ era pitcher with a high total of Ks since i got him. despite being horribly over hte projected IP limit, i figure that i might as well go to town with the guy since i've got only, well, first and fourth places to loose.
he just might give up 1 ER over 8 with 14Ks. you never know. in the third league where i dont have vazquez, i have wolf... so i can take whatever happens in stride. just as long as he doesn't give up 8 ER in 3.2 innings or something. comeon javvvvvvvy!
see what i mean? i left him in there and he went the distance.. gave up 9 hits, but ended up walking none and striking out 7, making his impressive K/BB ratio 146/35
his only run was a solo shot to bobby abreu.
so one can only hope that javvy gets hot and it's the 2nd half of '01 again. or at least the schmucks like me who traded for him... twice.
The key for Javy is that his pitch counts don't get too high. Robinson wore him down last season and early this season with ridiculously high pitch counts, and so his curve didn't have the same bite that it did. He is superb when he has extra rest.
Well, I'll admit that I was wrong on this one . Nice start for Vasquez.

wouldn't you braves boys kill for the services of mister vazquez?
it seems as if the braves have perfected the formula for making a team that dominates the regular season, but goes splat in the playoffs. i dont think hte pitching is there this season. one of those hot teams from the west should dispatch them, if not the cardinals or whoever wins the central.
