Later this week. I wouldn't start him until next period though.

Man, I don't know if Armando immediately reclaims the job. Yes they are paying him a ton of money, but Worrell has been great. And armando pitched like crap before going on the DL - should be interesting

Something I just read about our boy:
According to the Contra Costa Times, "Armando Benitez said Monday that he's perfectly willing to pitch in a setup role once he leaves the disabled list. "If I have to throw in the seventh inning or the eighth for a couple of days, no problem," Benitez said. Due largely to the effectiveness of Tim Worrell, who has converted all five of his save opportunities, manager Felipe Alou recently hinted that he might ease Benitez into the closer's role. Alou quickly returned Benitez to ninth-inning duty last season after hamstring surgery. Sidelined since the start of the season with left knee bursitis that skewed his pitching mechanics, Benitez could be activated sometime this week. Appearing in an extended spring training game today in nearby Mesa might be his final test."

Giants activate Benitez is the headline, but I haven't seen anything on the wire to indicate the transaction has actually been completed. Yahoo! still has Benitez listed as on the DL.

Yahoo has it posted that Benitez is returning. i imagine the DL next to the name will be gone tomorrow and i'll need to find him some room.

"Manager Felipe Alou said he hoped to give Armando Benitez a few appearances before putting him back in the closer role. Benitez was activated Thursday after a stint on the disabled list with left knee bursitis. He'll eventually take the closer job from Tim Worrell, who has converted his first six save opportunities."

Public service for those with Worrell (and Rodney, for that matter):

It's an easy call because I'm in a holds league, but I'm gonna hang with both Worrell and Rodney for now. And I'd probably keep both of them in a non-holds league until Benitez and/or TJones resume full-time closing AND prove effective in the role.

Until last night's little burp by Worrell, both of them had been money for my club. The last thing you want to see is a quick FA dump turn into an opponent's long-term closing solution.
