He's off to a hot start. Is he worth a look or just a flash in the pan?

I think he's worth a look in your deeper leagues. The kid can hit. He's got good pop, the problem before was that he tried to pull EVERYTHING. Now that he's going the other way a lot more he's much more dangerous. He won't run much for you, but he should have a decent average and good power. He's going to see a lot of fastballs being between Ichiro and in front of Ibanez and Sexson.

He has good power for a 2B. I don't expect his BA to be great though.

My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.

I certainly don't expect .300. But .270-.280 is certainly reasonable. I don't think he'll kill you in BA by any means...

I guess we'll see. ;-D

I'd say he is worth a look for a few reasons. Being a 2B helps his value and he has been batting 2nd in the M's line up. Now that isn't great since their offense isn't like the Red Sox, but it will give him pitches to hit as long as he stays there. He has always been a pretty good prospect in the minors, hitting at a young age for most levels. In a few years I can see him grow into himself and start producing quite well. For now though he is a sleeper that could help some in deeper leagues.

I'd guess his average eventually levels off to .275 or so, but he's not a bad sleeper for deep leagues.
He's in a favorable spot in the No. 2 hole between Ichiro and Ibanez and is unlikely to lose it to Reed (would make 3 lefties in a row) or Betancourt (all-glove, no-hit shortstop).

The biggest threat to his batting position might actually be Johjima, if he continues to rake the way he has (I'd prefer the M's simply move Joh up in front of Beltre and Everett until one of those guys indicates an ability to hit Major-League pitching again).

Anyway, the final plus for Lopez is that Hargrove seems interested in pressing the case on the basepaths this year, which could make him a threat for double-figure steals despite his lack of blazing speed.
