He was promptly knocked around last night, though he had 2 K's.

I watched the outing. He was wild in the zone and got away with it due to a decently live fastball to the first two hitters. His mechanics looked a lot better than what they were reported to have looked like in ST but his command still isn't where it needs to be. He's getting there though.

I'm gonna be patient with him and see how it plays out. He gets a pass on his 1st inning of work, I'm sure. I've got him on my bench where won't hurt me. I wouldn't advise having him anywhere else right now because the situation is too unpredictable.

If he continues to get knocked around after a few appearances, then we can only assume he won't be 2nd in line for closer much longer.

Remember though, he came in last night with two on, in a high pressure situation in Bo-town. I don't know why they put him in anyway! But, K'ing 2 is impressive considering the circumstances.

I think this is absolutely the right approach. First of all, it's not like there are enough save opps. in TB for Miceli to lose the job quickly anyway; and secondly the organization seems moderately committed to him as closer at least for this season unless he does screw it up. Seems to me Orvella was a hot pickup just based on getting called up but I'd put the odds on him closing by the end of the month at 10-to-1 so it's a long-term kind of thing with him.
