just was reading through a couple threads and wanted to see if we could put together a list of possible slow starters that we could steal from the lesser and impatient ballers...

Whoever got Nathan should be really happy. That might be one of the worst trades I've seen this year.
A capable reliever can quite easily slide into the closer role if he can handle the mental side of it. A lot of first year closers produce just like established closers (see Ryan, Nathan, Lidge, K-Rod, Papelbon, etc.). It wouldn't be a trade that I'd make, but if Chris Ray pitches properly all year then it's pretty much a wash.

i agree. the potential risk that ray crumbles later is what makes nathan more valuable, not anything concrete as of yet. i'm thinking basically, that risk should have some value of its own. if you're trading for a closer who at best will be a wash with the closer you're giving, and you're taking all the risk, then you should be getting something more.
