Nevin instead of Morneau?

Postby One-Hitter » Sat Apr 15, 2006 7:50 pm

I have Morneau but I'm thinking Nevin (free agent) has returned to form and he's hitting cleanup for a better team...he'll probably have a better average too. Just wondering your thoughts. I do like Morneau but I always give priority to where one hits in the lineup.

I would not recommend nevin...consider his best years are behind him, and he's on a rush in a hitters paradise...i think morneaus mad overrated, but i would much rather keep him than gamble on an old timer like nevin...

For those of you who picked the Reds to be last in the central (including espn and si)...i hate all of you, and you are wrong...

Both are decent util options in a 12 teamer. I'd stick with Morneau over Nevin, but it's conceivable that Nevin could out-rbi him. You say you're concerned about batting position in a lineup, but remember, it is only the second week. Morneau could eventually move up. Plus, he had close to 80 rbi last year despite hitting abysmally. Morneau should be about n .850 opsish hitter in the majors - with most of that concentrated toward the slugging end - not a .700 ops guy or whatever he was last season. Around 100 RBI isn't really an outlandish expectation from true slugger.

I'd be scared for the Twins' chances this season if Morneau wasn't moved up in the lineup soon. I'd move Hunter to 4, Morneau to 5, and White to 6 or maybe even 7. At least Batista can hit a home run once in a blue moon, rather than flail at everything all the time.

Morneau will provide more power, Nevin more R/RBI. I'd go with Morneau personally who has more upside in terms of a breakout, but they're both solid options.
