As soon as a starter gets injured (see: Santana, Johan, circa. 2003).

... or if Lohse proves Thursday's win was a fluke.

Honestly even if he isn't a SP he's worthwhile in a lot of league formats.

For h2h I don't know that I would want him on the roster yet unless you have lots of reserve slots, minor league slots for which he's eligible or it's a deep league.

But in roto with a reasonably low ip maximum (especially in Yahoo typical roto leagues) he's absolutely golden even as a MR.

He's going to give you SEVERAL high leverage innings per appearance. He'll probably vulture his share of wins...maybe not at a Scott Shields rate of a win / 10 ip or so since he's looking at multiple inning appearances most of the time but I'd say he could get close to a win / 15 ip. And in a league with an IP maximum his k/9 is OUTSTANDING. Combine that with excellent era/whip ratios and this guy will be great for you in most roto leagues regardless of his role on the team.

I agree with losers great value for any league even if he's not starting. That will come later!

I am sick of people just asking random questions on this stuff. I mean, this board really could get littered with massive amounts of "when is so and so going to be called up from the minors or move into a starting role or get to pinch hit or get to be a pinch runner". I always thought the focus of this board was to announce possible injuries and also make a post on a player when there is some NEWS about him that we should post to UPDATE others on that player.

But since I am close to the team, I asked Mr. Ryan and he told mw this:

"I do not make those decisions. I leave them up to manager Gardy. When will Liriano start? Well, when one of the other pitchers already starting falters over a number of starts I would suppose or if one of them gets injured. Santana and Radke obviously are locked in as starters. Silva has struggled a bit, but I think he'll be fine. Lohse had a fine spring and just got out of the gates a little slow. He had a very solid outing this week. Baker just shut down the Yankees lineup so I think he's pitching fine. Right now Liriano is proving himself in the bullpen. Next year he will be a starter for sure. This year if the other pitchers continue to pitch well for the most part and stay major injury free then Liriano will stay in the bullpen. Hope that answers your fantasy baseball buddies questions on him. Now get out there and catch!"

As I was trotting out to the field I thought I heard him mutter under his breath "frickin fantasy baseball"
