thanks for your help. your offense is set. id say sell high on shelton and try to get a stud pitcher or pitcher/closer combo. im not a believer in shelton keeping this up.
I can't really see any holes in your offense, and although you say your pitching is weak, I think you'll be fine in the long run. Schilling has been amazing lately, and Webb/Smoltz should anchor nicely, plus Schmidt/Young/Bonderman still have plenty of hope. I think your team is fine, only 1 holds guy but I don't know who you could lose for another one.
I would try and package Shelton and perhaps Bonderman for a top notch starter. I might not get you Halliday or Peavy, but Harden, Pettite, or Buerhle might not be out of the question. With Ortiz and Howard, you should try and sell Shelton high. He will have a good year, but he has got to come down to earth.
Basically I'm complicated.
I have a hard time taking the easy way
I wouldn't call it schizophrenia
But Ill be at least two people today
Trade Shelton while he's hot, I don't expect him to continue at this pace.... More than anything, you've got to many bench spots devoted to position guys, and you don't need so many with such a strong group in the position spots already... I'd pick up more marginal starters, and spot start them when there up against bad teams. An average pitcher can look like an ace when he's facing KC, San Diego, Pitsburgh, or a Derrek Lee-less Cubs. Those spot starts can also allow you to sit your stud pitchers when they're facing the Yanks or Cards...
Also, think about trading for historically good pitchers who are off to bad starts, veteran guys like Pettite, Zambrano, barring injury, those guys will come around and put up good #s for the year more often than not.
Your team looks good across the board except for the surplus of position players. I would try to get it down to 2-3 position players and add 2-3 more hitters in their place.
