One other thing that a lot of people miss is when the offense 'blows' a save while the setup man is in the game. A perfect example was the Seattle/Cleveland game last night.
J.J. Putz for Seattle came in for the bottom of the 8th inning into a 7-5 game. He pitched a scoreless inning after which his team put up 2 runs in the top of the 9th to extend the lead to 9-5. He then stayed in the game to pitch a scoreless bottom of the 9th and record the save.
When some people see J.J. Putz get a save after Guardado has been struggling they'll go off the deep end and drop good players to pick him up jumping to the conclusion that 'Putz got the save...he must be the closer now'. Common drops included guys that DO have closer jobs like Miceli (especially after his blowup), Reitsma and Weathers (especially since Mercker has grabbed a couple saves for the Reds). While jumping on FA closers is a big part of success in 5x5 leagues don't be the guy that dumps a good player to pick up somebody like Putz that vultured a save. Make sure to do your homework first and at the very least do a search here at the Cafe to make sure you're not dropping a good player to pick up a guy that's going to end up being useless for fantasy purposes.
