The Yankees said there was nothing physically wrong with Randy Johnson, who left after five innings and 87 pitches on Thursday.
There never really seemed to be anything wrong, so we'll take their word for it. Johnson gave up four singles, walked none and struck out five before being removed today. Apr. 13 - 3:10 pm et
Think of it this way guys.
Another inning would have put him over 100 pitches, likely near 105-110 unless he just had a really easy inning.
This is the KC freakin Royals, and you have a 3 run lead.
Randy is their ace, period. He is the only pitcher they have that they can rely on consistently to pitch well. It is definitely in the Yankees best interest to keep him healthy all year.
In games where they have a sizeable lead, I expect him to be pulled early very often. It's just part of the package of owning a 42 year old pitcher. Might as well get used to it.
