He's tearing the cover off the ball. Is it worth picking him up without a solid roster spot for him. He has to play while he's hitting right now, doesn't he?

If you're in a deep league I would pick him up. The problem is he has no place to play. They traded for Casey, so he's not taking 1B and they signed Burntiz as a FA, so he is assured a roster spot. Duffy sucks, but who else is going to play CF.

Craig Wilson is most likely playing himself into a trade. As a fantasy owner, your best hope is that he gets traded somewhere that will let him play every day.

I wish the Pirates were that team, but I just don't see it.

He is tremendously streaky. Check out his big season in 2004 - he put up almost all his numbers in April and May and was terrible the rest of the year. So I while it may be a good idea to plug him in for a couple of weeks, he is not a very good alternative over the long term.

But unless they make him the full-time catcher, he won't be playing every day. And unless it's a different Craig Wilson, he won't be this hot in 2 months.

You're right...he has been a fast starter in previous years. You're also right that he just doesn't have a place in the lineup unless someone gets hurt or gets traded. They're not going to sit Burnitz after paying him 6 million bucks to play RF.

There are plenty of possibilities for him, but whether the Pirates will follow through on them, I have no idea. They could have an OF of Burnitz, Bay, and Wilson some nights if they really want. They could play Craig at 1B or RF, but I doubt he'll be catching at all. They've basically misused his talent up to this point, and it doesn't look like they're going to fix it soon.

The absolutely stupidest thing they could do right now is trade Wilson...he's capable of hitting 30 HRs and who is like 7 years younger than the current RF...but they'll probably do it. I wouldn't mind if it was for an established good player, but knowing the Pirates they'd get freaking prospects that have no future.
