Vlad is one of those guys (like Soriano) that when the eventual career slide comes, it'll probably be sudden. He more than most great hitters Vlad depends largely upon his superb athletic ability, as opposed to most good hitters, who are good athletes, but are also well disciplined at the plate and don't swing at bad pitches. It's scary really to think how good Vlad could be if he laid off the junk and waited on more pitches over the plate.... Like Bonds was 2 years ago... Best plate discipline ever. He just waited and waited and forced you to either walk him or risk putting one in his wheelhouse.
With Vlad, it's all in those wrists. when those slow down, he'll be in trouble.
