I agree its become cliche and a little annoying, but its very convinient. Its a specific place to look about a specific topic, and gather everything into one thread as opposed to picking it out of a bunch of smaller threads. Everyone can flock to that one thread to see what the update is as opposed to start a new one.
I agree that its overused and whatnot, but its not really hurting the forums or affecting anything.
So quite your whining.
