Yeah, this was a good topic for me to talk about. I definitely agree that there are some decent reasons for keeping the DH around. Edgar Martinez and David Ortiz (it would be a shame for a team to have to deal with Papi in the field) are two good ones, and I like the fact that we still get to see guys like Frank Thomas and Jim Thome on a daily basis instead of just coming off the bench (if at all). But in the end, I think it's a better game when pitchers hit.
As for the issue with the line, I'd never really heard of that, but it makes a lot of sense (what I said a few posts back not withstanding.
). You're probably correct that umps aren't going to be trained to call those really inside strikes, and when guys stand that close to the plate, it eliminates any margine for error the pitcher has. I think ditching the body armour would be a good plan, but I certaily wouldn't mind them putting that line back in there.
