Am I nuts -- or a visionary? (Atlanta's Closer)

It's probably only a matter of time for Reitmsa. !+)

Devine looks devilish. :-P

Villarreal isn't looking 'fa real.' :-t

Anybody who's actually watching TBS notice how filthy Kenny Ray's stuff is? I don't know anything about his past or how he fits in with the plans, but I hope he gets a shot at that role. He might really open some eyes. 8-o

So... visionary B-) -- or nuts? :-B

Actually crossed my mind yesterday when I was watching Ray pitch... sometimes it seems like managers pick the least logical closers, though... but he does seem perfect for it, doesn't he?

With the options they have in Atlanta, everyone's going to get a shot at the closer job. If he's got good stuff, I don't see why he couldn't get the job.

I heard an interview with Brian Sabean (GM of the Giants) the other day on the radio and he was saying the same thing about Ray.

atl closer

Postby trevornm16 » Wed Apr 12, 2006 2:14 am

for reitsma its only a matter if time until he gets put back into the setup role that he excels at....he cant close games consistently because doesnt have closer stuff...he cant strike people out so he relys on his fielders making plays which will lead to blown saves....devine cant hit the strike zone at all and just looks scared....hell be bac in the minors once horacio ramirez is back....

so that leaves the question as to who will get the job...

villarreal will get the first opportunity and has the potential to succeed...anyone who watched him close big games in the WBC for mexico (vs. USA) saw that he can make some of the best miss.

if not than comes the cinderalla story, once out of baseball, non-roster invitee, mid-thirties journeyman kenny ray who is the only pitcher on the braves staff consistently getting people out and making them look foolish while doing so ....just ask bonds about the three pitches in the dirt he swung at last week.

Anyone think that Atlanta might put Smoltz back in the closer role? He has been weak as a starter this year (so far) and might be running out of gas.
