What do you guys think about him? Is he worth a flier?

As I recall, he was having a great spring at one point. I think the main problem is that he just doesn't miss a lot of bats, and that gets him in trouble sometimes.

He has a couple of problems. He tends to lose focus and not listen to his coaches. I'd let him sit on the WW in a 12 team mixed league but in league with a bigger player pool he might be worth a chance.

marquis (and suppan) are the type of guy that you pick up when they are pitching fairly well and then drop them a few weeks/month later for the next flavor of the month. they are capable of getting some wins and respectable era for stretches of time, but not much in the way of k's and whip is pretty average.

you are right, he doesnt strike out many. if he cuts down on the walks it wouldnt be as bad, but his k/bb was just 1.44. his game plan is to let the batters put the ball in play and get themselves out. you will end up giving up a decent amount of hits with that strategy. you run into real problems when you start handing out free passes and only punch out 100 guys.

I know it will be tempting to go out and pick him up after his performance last night, but there are two things you should note about that performance:

1) He only struck out three batters, and
2) He was pitching against the Pirates.

If he can repeat that performance later on this week against the Cubs, then I'd say he's ready to be picked up. Remember, this is the guy that won something like a dozen straight decisions back in 2004. Granted, that sort of stat is more luck driven then others, but it still says something about the combination of his skill and the team he plays for.
