Hammel's a nice young pitcher with good, not great stuff, and fantastic control. His fastball sits around 92-93 MPH, but he can pump it all the way up to 96. His curveball is his best pitch, though. 12-6 drop that's nearly unhittable when located.
Basically, he has future no. 3 type stuff in a rotation. Hopefully, with a couple strong performances, they'll keep him up.

This pretty much sums up Hammel. He should be a solid #3, even though I am hoping he will be our #4 as soon as next year with Kazmir, Jackson, and Niemann as our top 3.
If we ever get to the point where our #4 starter is #3 quality, that will be a good day (presuming our #1 and #2 are at least #2 quality).
But five #3 isn't a bad rotation either - means you have a chance at the W every given night.
This is a key year pitching-wise - see what we have and where it fits in such that in the off-season, we can go and see about obtaining another #2 starter to go with Kaz and hope we can develop at least two #3 guys from those pitching this year, be it Hammel, Jackson, Niemann, et al.
Then, give J and DY app. 2-3 months (preferably more - but these are the Rays) to get their feet wet and let the fun begin next April.
