Willy mo pena!!?

Fine. I’ll do this again. What’s one more time going to hurt?

Wily Mo sucks. :-P
Wily Mo sucks. :-P :-P
Wily Mo sucks. :-P :-P :-P

Does he have the potential to hit 40-50 HR in a year? I personally think so, but is that even proven?

-59 HR in 1462 career minor league at-bats = 22 HR/550AB
-51 HR in 830 career major league at-bats = 34 HR/550AB (but you must realize that’s inflated due to Cincy’s ballbark and the fact that he was more often a situational lefty hitter where his ABs were more likely to yield a HR)

Conclusion, we don’t know what he’ll do in a full season vs. both RHP and LHP.

Does he bring any other useful asset to the ballclub? Absolutely not.

-Worst defensive player I ever seen, and I’ve seen Dunn play so that saying a lot.
-Can't figure how to run bases to save his life.
-Strikeouts: A full season at the plate for Wily Mo will blow the socks off whatever the season strikeout record currently is.
-Average. You may think I’m kidding, but I’m not. He will have to get very lucky to have a batting average over .240 over a full year. I can’t prove it now, but just wait and see. You’ll understand after you watch him take about 100 ABs or so. :-o

You can’t compare him to Ortiz in 2003 because Ortiz hit .288 and Wily Mo wil never come close to that.

However, when he actually makes contact, it is a thing of beauty.

this is no the ADAM stern fan club *cough* or satanic followers, but just realistists who read the boston globe. and that no matter how many rants or screeds you put up that wmp is the next coming of jesus christ, the red sox front office has stated that they're taking it slow with him. he has holes in his swing that they hope he corrects.

now chill out.

and again i agree with u, he has holes, THEY WILL SHARE playing time, i said that. But i am not some dumb idiot, i have a ton of knowledge on this sport, and wutever the globe says or ppl in boston dosent affect my oppinion, the ppl of the city usually do not kno wut is good for them ever. ppl in oakland think zito needs to go, texas hates david carr, fans are dumb just dont get the big picture.

anyways my prediction is this albert stern will not produce, he will hit under 250, which is wut pena hits, so they will play pena over stern eventualy.

I'm not talking about the fans. I'm talking about the Red Sox front office. The Globe is not reporting what Phil from Pawtucket thinks about WMP starting right now. They're reporting what Tito is saying and what Theo is saying. Maybe that, "dosent" affect your "oppinion" of "Albert Stern" since you, "kno wut" is good for the Red Sox more than them, but you're not showing it here. All you're doing is frothing.

And I think everyone here is about out of qualludes.

ya and i will tell u something else buddy, in 2003 david ortiz was nothing more then a part time player, who COULD not play any defense, and the red sox plattoned him. Back then sox fans felt bout the same way bout ortiz as they do pena. then all of the sudden he broke out, sox were FORCED to play him every day. I am NOT wrong here, this is all 100 percent true. I remeber freakn Eric KArrabel answering someones email when asked should i pick up david ortiz, and he said NO, the guy has upside, but they won't play him everyday, etc. Then he went on a tare, sox fans loved him, he led them to the world series.

im not saying pena is gonna be ortiz or even close, but u guys are pig headed, and don't see the potential this guy actually has, u just see o he cant play defense, Well neither can manny.........neither can ortiz..............but they are stars.

stern looks like a piece of trash to me......

Why can't Stern be the one who has the huge breakout like Ortiz? What has Wily Mo done to make you think he's going to be much of anything? He has great power, but given 600 at bats, he'll s
trike out 200+. I hope I'm wrong.

well Albert stern is just a leadoff guy, who can hit for some avg and nothing else, and just cuz he hit for avg in AAA DOES Not mean he will hit in the majors.

Willy mo already showed he can hit at the major level, he had 26hr/66rbi in 336ABs in 2004 and 19hr/51rbi in 2005 in 311 at bats.

Carlos Pena hit homers too along with a .220 or whatver AVG. who's he playing for now?

Since this is a WILY MO PENA thread, he just entered the game (4th inning) replacing Trot Nixon who left because of an undisclosed injury that may have been suffered when he dove for a fly ball. No link as of yet as I was just watching the game.

The announcers were only speculating that the injury occurred when he dove for the ball because he remained in the field and took his next at bat and had trouble running up the line to first base. Big Wily Mo is in the lineup!!!

Well it looks like the Manny, Coco, Nixon outfield will be replaced for at least a while, by Manny, Sterm, Wee Wily outfield :-o .
