Adam Stern. The guy almost singlehandedly led the Canadians over the Americans with several great catches, and his 3 for 4 night (which consisted of a HR and a 3B off Dontrelle Willis). If you go by stats, he was clearly the best hitter in the tournament during the limited time he played. Personally I think he's a great 4th outfielder with potential for more, he plays defense well, and he certainly can hit. Any team would be lucky to have the guy. He's just a far better baseball player than Willy Mo Pena. Willy is just lucky he reaches a .300 OBP from year to year, while his defense certainly isn't that great either. IMO, it's a no brainer who should take over the job agaisnt righties while Crisp is gone.
yes and we should all including me, fantasy owners, and general manaers..........ALL go by a like 3 game/2 week sample in wut was the WBC.
god damn, better go sign Esteban Loazia to a 3yr/21million dollar deal.............o wait.
if u really think that stern is a stud based on a lil performance in the WBC, i beg to differ.
And furthermore, i bet many teams wut take Willy mo pena over stern long term, hell they gave imo a good pitcher in arroyo for pena. Pena has incredible untapped power, do u not see that? when u say stern will be better then pena.
i dont kno how this turned into pena vs stern thread. but i wut bet a whole lot on pena bein a better player NOW based on his major league experice already over stern, and the future based on potential.
again though i am hated by the albert stern fan club
When did I say you had to go by what he did at the WBC? I'm just saying watch them both play. One is clearly superior to the other defensively. One also hits for average, and gets on base far more frequently than the other. Nobody here is disputing Willy Mo Pena's power, especially agaisnt lefties, but can you tell me why he deserves a full-time spot anywhere? While Crisp is out, Stern should hit agaisnt righties (and I don't foresee him struggling to the extent that Pena could), while Pena should hit agaisnt lefties. That's the way it looks like it's going to go.

i thought i made myself clear, yes i agree they should split time at first, yes WMP is better vs lefties,
all i did was predict in the future albert stern will be sent bak down to AAA....why? cuz he has never shown anythin at the majors yet, and this will be his 1st chance so we will see. How is everyone so high on him, when he has spent most his young career in the minors. At least WMP showed his power at this level already.
LET ME say it one more time, cuz apprently ppl cant read. I AGREE they will share playing time at first, that is wut all the sites say. In fact coco will prob be back soon enough that neither WMP or stern have a shot to take over full time, but given a real oppertunity, MY OPPINION is that willy just like ortiz did, will break out and show his power where sox cant bench him, stern will hit undeer 250 and go bak to pantucket.

While my opinion differs from your's completely...I believe Stern will do just fine, and will remain a very good 4th OF after Crisp comes back (if the Red Sox do decide to keep him over Pena once Choi or Wells comes back). Pena will continue to do what he always does..hit a few homeruns, strike out a lot, hit poorly for average, and not get on base. However, if the Red Sox pick Pena over Stern as a 4th OF simply because they have invested more into him (Arroyo), I wouldn't be surprised at all.

u have some very good points, and u presented them much better then the rest on this thread, so i respect ur oppinion,
I'm a Sox fan and really like both players and want them both to develop.
Stern was a Rule 5 pick last year. He's had a hot start this year, but I'd like to see him getting full time at-bats in AAA to enhance his development.
As for Wily Mo, this is a great time to get him the at bats he needs and to also see what he has in CF. They can bring Willie Harris up from Pawtucket to be a late inning defensive replacement, while sending Stern down.
and finally i like how none of the guys arguing with me on these boards, even touched on my david ortiz comparison, willy mo pena story is very similar to ortiz in 2003. I am sorry i awoke the I LOVE ALBERT STERN FAN CLUB, and those who are satanic follolwers of his,
Ortiz displayed a good batting eye and decent contact rates with the twins. His low average was simply a case of a poor hit rate. He had some problems hitting lefties which he seems to have turned around.
Pena has a terrible batting eye and a terrible contract rate. His average is actually higher than would be expected and most likely will degrade. He can't hit righties which is a much bigger problem than Ortiz had.
